An easy option...
The future system can be really simple since it seems to only be a limited quantity Fujiyama problem

If you want to only offer the knives to your forum users, then create a new thread for a Fujiyama lotto drawing and whoever posts in the thread will be entered into the drawing. Use one of the many free random picking software and pick either by post position number or user ID. You'll know how to contact them and the whole process won't be too taxing since it's probably just a few knives.

This system is used in the custom flashlight world on FB. People comment "In" or whatever is asked. It works. It's simple. And can be put in place with the incoming 210s in seconds.

For example,
Microsoft has a verified picker app called Raffle Picker.
If 30 users post "In or whatevever" and you have 4 knives...whoever posted 3rd,15th,1st,16th positions in the lotto thread gets the chance to buy...with 4th and 20th back-up in case two back out.

I like the idea of "in or out" and a random number generator. Then if the winner decides to pass just pick a new number. I've seen other forums where the users have ID numbers alongside their username and that is the number used. At the end of the day you could just export the user names into a spreadsheet and add numbers to them. No one really needs to know the details of how it works as long as it works for CKTG.

Should be simple to timestamp the order (in milliseconds) and fulfill by time.
e.g.
onclick="this.form.timeField.value=getTimeStamp()"

A raffle is just so much fairer. For Aussies and others where the release time is 3am, it sucks getting up, then missing out because of the extra latency caused by the distance.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think makes the Fujiyama series sell out almost instantly while the Konosuke SKD series can sit around in the store waiting to be bought?

I actually ordered one yesterday. They are different beasts for sure, but I am very excited to compare them.

I'm certain scarcity plays a big role. You've had your hands on more knives than I have by a sight, but I've put a lot of miles on knives and my W#1 Fujiyama is the most impressive knife I've used. The fact that I wasn't able to snag a 225mm one makes me all the more sick about the chip I recently got in mine. If I do manage to get a slightly larger Fujiyama I will pass the other along to someone else.

This is why I don't take issue with a retailer increasing the margin on highly-desirable items...for every 1 Fujiyama or Takeda batch that sells out in 35 seconds, you have a 100+ other knives that sit unsold for extended periods of times. Some never sell.

Just looking at the photos I like the Sumiiro and SKD Tsuchime lines a lot. But, that's a lot of money for a general purpose knife. The Fujiyama series is pretty however I can't help but wonder if I missed the TV star that claimed it is the reason their food is so good, haha.

Well, I was mostly joking. No doubt they're exceptional knives. But since not everyone's preferences or priorities are the same, it's hard for me to consider them (or any knives) universally so . . . remember Masamoto KS's, for example? I think there's a bit of Pappy Van Winkle syndrome in play here. It's a great juice but scarcity and lore have pushed it into the unattainable/prohibitvely-priced category. There are so many great alternatives to both -- plentiful and inexpensive -- I sometimes just have to shake my head at the frenzy over certain things.

Does anyone know if the Konosuke SKD Tsuchime line is SKD 11 or SKD 12? I've been poking around the internet and most people seem to claim SKD 12, except some of the CKTG store descriptions say SKD 11. Color me confused, haha.

No idea, and with the caveat that I'm not a metallurgy nerd I'm going to say that given the maker "it doesn't matter."

You are all a bunch of enablers, haha. Here is my new 210mm SKD. I bought it because that tsuchime finish is perfection to me. The picture doesn't even do it justice. It seems to change color depending on the angle you look at it. The balance is great. Oh, and it's wicked sharp too! Very happy I bought this! :D

Yes, we are enablers, and proud of it! We should get a t-shirt made. "Enablers R Us. Ask us about CKTG."

I am still curious how the Konosuke SKD Tsuchime line compares to the Sumiiro line in practice. I know everything is debatable on paper but in my hand I probably wouldn't notice the difference besides how it looks. I do have two hands though so someday I probably "need" them both. :)

I bought a dozen of these. There is no firm date when they'll ship to me, but I'll keep updating this thread.
