Some of the knives are already restocked, you could register for email in-stock notification for the knife you're waiting for.

One of the knives I had signed up for an e-mail notification was sold out in less then an hour today. You gotta be fast for some of these sought after knives. I've even missed out when I had one in my cart. By the time I had confirmed the order, it was sold out. And no, I wasn't delaying or looking at other things. I just wasn't fast enough entering all my CC details, etc.
You can blame Mr. Suburban for my being here.

Just gotta be fast, an hour is a long time too. When I used collect sneakers, it'll be all gone less than a minute for exclusives.

You could also save your cc on your chrome browser for faster checkout.

Mark, are you planning on offering some of those Moritakas as no handle offerings?

I’m pretty much getting out of the custom handle business. It’s time consuming to take photos and specs etc for each knife. If we get some with no handles because a blacksmith runs out we’ll do them but not as a regular thing.

On this shipment they sent them all with handles installed with a few exceptions listed. We’ll do those with customs on them.

It may be too big of a pain, and I may be in the minority, but... I wonder if it would work to have a couple of simple options. I'd love to be able to purchase with nice, burnt chestnut, if it didn't mean a huge added expense. I know some people have strong feelings about octagonal vs. D..., and lefty. I'd imagine seeing the specs for the knife with the stock handle and picking one of a couple of other options.

There are a lot of varieties of handle materials, shapes, lengths, etc to keep a bunch in stock for this. It would be very time consuming to swap out handles on the knives since the tangs are different sizes and would need to be custom fit or burned in. Burn in handles still take time to do and run the risk of damaging the knife or handle if not done properly with proper equipment, especially in the quantity of knives CKTG sells.

Best bet is to get the knife you want and then have it rehandled.

I won't kill them off completely. We just won't be stocking a hundred at any one time.

So, you'll have a run on stones?

I was just reading that the Port of Portland was getting in a lot of container ships. Also some private charter vessels for shipping are being used, as the regular shipping has taken such a hit with the pandemic.

Could you elaborate on this a little, Mark? Is it that the products are not available or there are not enough transports/cargo slots, or regulations/border problems? Just curious how all of this is unfolding.

What’s happening is shipping has been disrupted both on the demand and supply side. There are labor shortages in trucking and shipping and port workers. Each time the goods are handed off between these industries things sit for longer than normal and goods pile up. Also, the disruptions are on exports too and ships are often going back to Asia empty or need to wait at port for the goods to show up.

So for example, this order from Imanishi would normally take 5 weeks to get to me from the time I order. This order took a little over 4 months. Now multiply that example with hundreds of thousands of shipments and all of us start thinking “Better order a lot because things are taking so long and it might get worse” and then the economy starts getting into this spiral of over and under supply. It makes importing challenging.

As a former foorballer who spent too many hours pushing those sleds around the field I suggest you use your legs and bend those knees or you'll be having a real back ache in no time at all! Nobody wants to go through life with 9.5 or less fingers! Ouch!

Same here. I spent many a day bearing down to push the five man sleds alone. Dig deep!
