Kuwabara Group Buy Passaround
Kuwabara Group Buy Passaround
I mentioned I would be interested in sponsoring a Kuwabara 210mm gyuto passaround and it's time. Will this be the next knife everyone else other than you (the lucky, adventurous, handsome, and prescient buyer) wishes he had bought before they ended up scarce? Is it a big hunk of pig iron no one else will want that I'm going to end up needing to regrind with my progressively more limited free time? There's only one way to find out for less than $165 and that's to reply here or shoot me a PM. We can find out together.

I'd like to buy the knife with up to five participants putting in $7 each with the standard jbart procedures applying. I want to know about this knife enough that I will buy it if even only one other person is interested.

Holy shit, that is a big hunk of pig iron! Looks like it was made to split wood! Probably will be a better knife than a Kato....

That's three, possibly four now if Cutuu joins. I'll order the knife this afternoon.
Re: Kuwabara Group Buy Passaround
You are certainly welcome. I have not had any PMs yet, so that's four. The knife should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to pick it up, but, more likely I will open it Monday. I'll send out a message related to details soon.
Having watched Steve's videos on the nakiri and bunka again I am getting my hopes up.

That wraps up the list, and ended up going a bit beyond! I'm glad there is interest. I will get messages out in the morning regarding PayPal and addresses.
I picked up the Kuwabara and used it tonight. I think I like it, maybe a lot. If it was not going on a journey I would modify it immediately and I think it could be an amazing niche project knife. It may be a bit coarse without that attention. I think the profile and shape are going to be popular. It is a pretty big 210mm, almost a Konosuke 240mm. It has the tiniest bit of curve for the first 40-50% of the blade that is just a hair from dead flat. In practice it's a great flat spot. The curve probably won't last more than one sharpening session. Performance is fine, but could be opened up with some thinning.

Some photos, please
(I've been resisting to join all week, but I'm still interested in the reports, sensations, and modifications!)

I'm actually really interested to see what you guys have to say about this one.

Re: Kuwabara Group Buy Passaround
This is my first pass around. Just to make sure I am doing it right. At this point, I send $7 to PayPal. Anything else?
Re: Kuwabara Group Buy Passaround
I tried to hop on earlier to answer PMs, but the forum issues are giving me trouble. Most of you have covered your bases and I have several payments already; I have a few pictures to post tonight, too.

Some larger images to show the whole knife, the finish and the choil.
