So am I! LOL. Not enough free time to get back to my buddy with the press, so I may try to go to a forge on a day off and see if I can knock it out in a day there. Power hammers and press make quick work of a billet! It's around 12" long, around 1.25" square, 16 layers, so I may try to reduce it down to 1/2" thick and draw it out longer (24-30") and be able to cut and stack into 6, 4 or 5" pieces, weld and reforge that out. That would give me almost 100 layers. If I do that again, it would be almost 600 layers. Drawing the bar out longer/thinner makes stacking layers much faster and I would rather have a 1/4" thick and 2"+ wide billet at the end than a 1" thick billet! Longer and wider is a good thing and means less hand hammering! I may just stick with random pattern for this one and forge the pieces out from a thicker billet to get more movement in the lines.

That looks interesting but the design doesn't appear sturdy enough. Seems to be more of a show piece.

It's made by Nordquistdesigns, check it out on instagram, you might change your mind on it's sturdiness.

Decided to forge out a little chunk by hand.
Only 16 layers, but it came out nice! Starting chunk was 16 layers, 1.3" tall, 1.7" wide and around 1.4" long.

Yeah, it doesn't have many layers (only 16 to start, and I had to grind into it a bit to get it cleaned up), but I am really happy with how it came out! Can't wait to work on the main billet more and get more layers into it!! May hit up a local forge next Weds to try to draw out the bar further, cut, stack, reweld and redraw again. Moving this steel by hand was a PITA because of the shape and thickness. When I first etched it, it didn't have much contrast, so I cleaned up the grinds again and would etch for a bit, then use some 2000 grit sandpaper and sand down, re etch and sand down several times, which left the 15N20 bright and the 1084 greyish.

I like it! Lower layer count damascus is actually quite cool looking for it's own reasons, but it seems to be rare because higher layer count is legitimately regarded as more premium. I wouldn't mind seeing more low layer count damascus personally though.

Nice handle too, the double sided flare of the pommel is a shape I like. It reminds me of some Puukko knife handles.

The handle shape works really well on choppers, but is super comfy on smaller blades too!

The low layer count is dramatic, but most people want the tighter layers. I booked a shop day for this Weds so I am hoping to draw, cut, stack, weld and redraw the main billet out! Should get me to around 100 layers!

Very nice! That handle with the pattern isn’t overly detracting. Compliments the piece so well.

Nothing...it's not mine! Lol. Its one at Dragons Breath Forge. They have a few in the 250# plus range! I picked up a used NC Big Face on FB for $350. Dragons Breath has some nice 200# anvils for $600, which is an excellent deal! Bigger anvils are more efficient at moving metal and are more solid, but some are going for a lot per pound. I saw some 150# anvils for like $1200 or more!

All this talk about anvils, makes me think of the Anvilania National Anthem sung by Perry Coma.
