I learned the hard way on that too. My mistake was with a Masamoto KS about 8 yrs ago.

If God wanted me to be a vegetarian he wouldn't have made animals taste so good.

Same here... forcing a mustard patina is not something I'll do again. Fortunately, a bit of Barkeeper's Friend and some elbow grease got it off.

I used some diamond spray and a felt block and cleaned up the KS. It did a great job but did leave a slightly more polished/shinier finish on the knife but not a big deal.

I always enjoy these patina photos and this thread has been quiet for a while. Here is my 270mm Masakane SK Gyuto.

Really liking how the coffee patina is holding up on my Yoshimi Bunka. Also, had the recent chance of meeting the man himself and had one of his apprentice custom engrave with my nickname.

I missed this post from three years ago.ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 9:09 am This is what I consider a nicely used knife with full patina should look like after about a year of service. This is a Kanehida TK. I love sharpening this line of knives. A customer sent me this photo. I don't use nail polish, promise.

My pareidolia kicked on hard on the dishwasher. I see a cartoon rat wearing glasses.STPepper9 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 5:00 pmI missed this post from three years ago.ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 9:09 am This is what I consider a nicely used knife with full patina should look like after about a year of service.
