Forum Special Remade Update

Post by FisherMAn1298 »

I switched from 6k stone to orbital sander 40,80,120,180,240,400,800,1k,1500,2k,3k grit sandpaper. Then I bought a 1 hp buffing machine, cloth wheel with 2 micron diamond bar by Master Ken Schwartz and the results are pretty amazing. The pics are too big to post on the forum. Anybody like to see the result just pm me an email address and I'll send them along. There's also a Daovua piranha cleaver that's 3/4 done too.

Very cool! Please be careful, I know some very experienced people who have been hurt by knives and buffing wheels.

Thank you Miles. Ken advised me on this purchase and he would re-iterate that issue every time we talked about it. I agree and think safety every second I have a knife in my hand.

Thank you Taz575 for the resize job. what program did you use so I can use it myself? The piranha cleaver isn't done. Need sandpaper that will remove carbon steel. Any suggestions?6" hook and loop discs would be nice. Going to put wax buff job on handles.

I just used plain old MS Paint on a computer. I have tried to resize from my phone, but it always comes out grainy.

I would look for a metal grade or SiC sandpaper. Look up RhynoWet; it's what most of the knifemakers use to hand sand hardened knife blades and is the go to sandpaper for this. I don't know if it comes in hook and loop discs though? You could probably buy a sheet and use 3M 77 spray glue to glue it over an existing hook and loop disc?

Thanks for the info. great idea on the glue up. I have s-77, ran my wax wheel for the first time, need the right size washers but it looks great. i'll grab some of that sandpaper and see what it'll do with that piranha cleaver.

Just remember, the orbital sanders will have a softer backing to them due to the hook and loop setup, so they may not flatten the surface out. You may want to wrap the sandpaper around a file and use that to get a flatter surface, or put something hard on the sander to give you a harder and flatter surface.
