2021 knives
Some stuff I have been working on this year.
Here is a Mace Vitale blade that a collector sent me to etch the blade and put a handle on. This is a competition style chopper in Mace's random damascus.

Re: 2021 knives
Hey Rob , yeah thats a fun little size , I made it as a companion knife for a friend who's been using a 265mm petty, and was sick of fighting over it with his SO.
Matt,
The copper band in that damascus pattern is sold by Gregg Dion of Dion Damascus. He is located in Massachusetts. As far as I know he is the first one to make this type of stuff commercially available, at least domestically. Its really cool stuff and requires precise mfg. as the melting point of copper is low compared to steels. This is a 52100 core with 420 SS and 1095 damascus...its kind a like uncharted territory as far as etching goes. It was fun and I spent an ungodly amount of time sanding, etching, re sanding, re etching, and even applying vinegar washes to try and get the coolest looking surface I could. Wicked cool steel to work with. I have not done a bend test on it but I imagine its the hardened core steel of course and a somewhat soft cladding, it feels not quite like a mono steel in use but a good bit different than your typical soft metal clad steels.
A cool side note about the 420SS and 1095 damascus cladding...it etched with this cool crystaline structure on the surface...and then the vinegar wash which I blow dried left a iridescent patina , but the way it refracts light...is sooo coool maan! Looking forward to buying more of this stuff.
Ive got some mike sakmar mokume (brass/copper/ni silver) I am using for a ferrule, once its final shaped I will use that gold pin material to make cute little domed and peened pins as a mechanical bond in addition to it being epoxied in place. The handle has a black micarta frame and some carbon fiber and copper scales I got from Fat Carbon in Lithuania.
I had bought this billet of steel about a year ago or more and I used my "ghost cloud" cold forging technique to develop a bit more of pattern into it. Although, this stuff already comes with a pretty cool pattern straight from the mill.
I dont know why i take soo long to finish these kind of projects, I must have changed the design 100 times. Ill be sending this to Coop for some real photos before its headed to its final destination.

Re: 2021 knives
Hey All, Here's a photo dump and brief description of what's been happening this past summer.
Still have not finished this wild knife yet, but very very close now.
I visited Graydon Decollibus recently, he lives pretty close by. He gave me a blade to grind that he got from Joe @ Halcyon forge.
I gave graydon a few aebl blades that he is making handles for. We will have it all available at the NCCA knife show sept. 19th. Ill also try and post this stiff on IG for sale at the same time incase anyone is interested.
And heres a full tang adventure model I did for a buddy of mine recently. It is 26c3 carbon steel (spicy white) and has a kydex sheath Tim Johnson made for me.

I think you meant to embed the video. Took me awhile to figure out how to do it, you need to only use everything after the last "/". Was very confusing for me when I first tried to do this. In this case just the zohoPSHMtNg from the link you posted.

Re: 2021 knives
Hello,
Please take a look at my latest offering. This is a 165mm (6.5" ) blade from 1/8" thick AEBL steel.
Solid one pc Curly Walnut handle with a carbon fiber/copper ferrule.
After grinding with only a flat platen for the last 8 years I finally got myself some wheels.
The blade has 6" hollow ground bevels satin finished lengthwise. and a belt finish on the spine and convexed edge.
The edge itself is a shallow (approx. 10 deg.) micro-bevel, finished on a Shapton pro 5k stone.
It was tough to capture how this blade looks due to the different facets. It looks really cool! You can see additional pics on my Instagram.
As always, The blade has a full length distal taper.
This type of bevel geometry is commonly referred to as an "S" grind. I think it absolutely looks and feels cool, plus it does reduce "stickiness" at least a little bit.
The handle is a great pc of two tone curly walnut I got from someone off of this forum some years back. This knife works great and you will love it, I guarantee it.
$300 shipped CONUS. I ship USPS and the knife comes in a blade guard and zippered knife pouch. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: 2021 knives
here another of this type of finish work. Nitro V steel, hollow ground bevels on a 12" wheel, pulled finish on the hollow and then convexed belt finish. As well as my typical little false edge chamfer. This makes for a pretty bold contrast. I wish I could take a photo of the choil...its pretty awesome. I will be doing a 8" chef in 26c3 like this next, if anyone is interested.
This one handle is not finished yet, this is just a rough 120 grit right off the belt grinder. I smooth out the contours by hand at this point with 150 grit paper and work my way up to a decent finish. usually around 800 to 1500 grit. This is teak burl from Ben @ Greenberg woods. I wasnt expecting such awesome two tone figure, Ben always has the nicest stuff.
