Hello Everyone,
I wanted to share a few thoughts on the nanocloth with CBN that Ken offers. My personal life went into more of a tailspin than I expected at the new year and I've only recently got things righted. I'm in my new apartment and now have an appreciation for shorter knives in cramped places! Oh....my dear 240mm Makoto Sakura doesn't play nearly as often these days. Anyway....
I had held it on faith that the nanocloth and CBN would be excellent strops. Ken has strong respect in our community and personally won't tolerate anything substandard to be associated with his name. The nano cloth strops with CBN are not exception.
I have two nano cloth strops one with 1 micron CBN and the other with 0.5 micron. I have had these for nearly 3 months. It's embarrassing to have such great gear without using it. But, I was in hotels a long time and then wanted ot actually have an 8000 grit stone as a stepping stone to the 1 micron. I used my Shapton Glass stones to prepare the perliminary test knife with was a 135mm Makoto Sakura SG2 petty. OK.....so how do they work?
First thing is a very unexpected result. CBN strops are like magical imaging tools for your edge. By that I mean that they clean up the edge in a way that any physical imperfections like microchips or any oddball edge geometry stands out like it's highlighted in neon. everything I saw was confirmed by going over my finger nail but it was a delight to see it all so clearly. I think it might be the consistent particle size making the edge surface reflection incredibly uniform.
Second thing is what you're surely waiting for. How does it perform? The 1 micron nanocloth was very good but I wasn't sure how much better than other strop materials. I couldn't quantify it. Better definitely, how much? Ummm, not sure. However, once I moved up to 0.5 micron it was like being on a different planet! Gliding through through thin receipt paper and the like, not to mention anything else I put in front of it. It was a different experience.
These strops feel great, too. They are a joy to use. I enjoy the tactile feedback I get through my hands as I use them. This was a partial test. I only used my 1000 and 4000 Shapton Glass to reset the knife edge. When I do a full test that will go into the Customer Review section, I'll to a progression from 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, and 8000 before hitting the nanocloth to finish. Also, I'll try a few different knives and steels, if possible. My post separation en route to divorce collection isn't the same as before.
I think these are worth trying. I love mine.
Thanks and Take Care,
Mike

Great review. Unfortunately nanocloth will be available directly from me as Ken's Corner empties out. Please don't mix my nanocloth with the black (inferior) stuff from Jende.

I experienced the same revelation with the pdp and nano strop from Ken. Between those items and the Nubitama 1k Platinum Hard stone I was in heaven. Delirious from the amazing job these tools do to your edge. Never cut paper virtually without a sound!
