Anyone interested in a beginner's set of stones?

Post by FisherMAn1298 »

I have a set of soaking stones 400/1K, 3K/8K that I am willing to loan out to someone who wants to start sharpening. These will get you started on building skills and muscle memory. All I ask is treat them with care and return them when done. Either you move on to better stones or decide sharpening is not for you. Post a thread here or PM me directly to get you started!

These stones are beginners, but they get the job done. One person has already used them as a stepping stone to learning how to sharpen and now has his own high quality stones and sharpens quite well.
Thank you for your kind words.

Very nice of Paul, it's little things like this that can sometimes be the last little push someone needs to get things started.

Bummer. I thought this post was about a place to get some inexpensive starter stones. I bought a set from Amazon for about $50 for 4 stones. I've only sharpened 2 knives so far but I'm looking forward to getting more practice in.

Super generous offer by the OP though.

The idea is to borrow these and cut your teeth on them, then return them and spend your money on a higher end set, say Nubatamas of Shapton Glass. let's hope somebody decides to dive in and begin their journey!

What a generous offer! Admittedly if they were any less expensive you would think they were stolen lol. A great place to sharpen your third knife :)
