150/1200 combo stone for beginners and pros alike

Post by ken123 »

This is a stone that beginners and pro sharpeners will appreciate.

Beginners need a first stone that will let you quickly establish an edge, fix chipped edges and damaged tips and even for reprofiling edges. Nothing frustrates a new shsrpener more than not being able to create a burr easily.

Most new shsrpeners start off repairing badly damaged knives of their own or friend's 'knives from hell', usually softer blades. Here the rather large jump to a 1200 works well. You wind up with an edge that exceeds the original factory edge in most instances.

For the pro the 150 is the same 150 available in a larger 50 mm thick stone. The 150 is the thicker stone in the combo stone because it wears faster than the 1200. The 1200 is not the same as the 1200 bamboo but much harder. This makes it harder to cut into. It is an easy stone to use.

As you grow into more stones the combo stone can.be added to with both coarser, medium grit and finer stones rather than starting over again. This is typical for working on more abrasion resistant steels.

Another benefit for the 150 is how well it plays with the Atoma 140 diamond plates. The 150 removes the140 diamond scratches vety quickly, and the 140 flattens the 150 very well too. Best of both worlds.
