The reason I prefer to stick with the original handle is so I can better assess and review the knife for prospective buyers. If the handle were about the same weight, though, it wouldn't matter much since the balance point would basically be the same. That's the most important thing.

The stock handle seems a cut above most, but similar in quality to what you'd find on most CKTG stuff.

Did you want to get in on the action as well?

I appreciate the offer, but I will pass. I don't think the knife will be much different from my Shibata and the list is quite long enough already.

Ok. Time to play!

$10 per person sent via PayPal friends and family. My email address is Bensbites @ gmail.

A lost or damaged blade is responsible for the full retail price minus the people who have participated in the passaround already. I will refund the entry fee for anyone who doesn’t get the knife due to loss or damage.

Sharpening, if you know what you are doing, feel free to sharpen. If you damage the blade you will pay to send it to my guy at MakeItSharper.

At the end of the passaround the knife will be valued at the retail price, minus $10 per participant. I will have first choice to keep the knife, participants can email their offers. This knife is heading out with the stock handle.

I would like a photo of the knife by email when recieved and shipped out along with tracking information.

Further terms might be added as needed.

This knife is sweet! Thin and light with great fit and finish.

Looks great, and quite like the balance point.

How's the handle fit & finish?

Looks pretty immaculate from these photos.
What a plain, smooth looking blade. I wonder what you have in mind for a handle that would complement that. Got any ideas - or a finished product already?

The handle quality feels nice, really nice. Smooth, no step at the ferrule. From a fit and finish perspective, the is heads and tails above Ho wood.

This is a blade that I would complement with a figured grain like leopardwood or spalted maple burl.

Sounds promising.
And how about the weight issue that Jeffry brought up? Are you going to aim to keep the original balance?

I am shipping this out with the stock handle based on people preference. Most of my natural wood handles would be just fine to replace this one. I would only worry about mucking up the balance point on a heavy stabilized wood handle.

I am sure people want to know about the grind here.

I placed my MOS membership card against the spine and took a few photos.

Looks somewhat similar to my Shibata AS, but the Makoto has a lower tip. Will be interesting to compare.

Ben, could you do a measurement halfway between the spine and the edge? I have a hard time visualizing these things without reference. Looks like there might be a tiny bit more meat there than I had initially though (a good thing in my mind) but again, sometimes photos play tricks on my brain.

I will take a few measurements later tonight, the spine feels stiff enough. It cuts like a dream!

OK, i just went through the list of folks that joined in. I have the knife going down the east coast, then the middle of the USA, and finally up the west coast. The order looks like this:

Keith Marder
jbart
J david
GeorgeK
bbuth
gastro gnome
OgerBash
Altadan
nakneker
easilver
slobound

does this look good?

if I am missing anyone please email me. if someone wants to join later we can add them to the return journey from the west coast to Boston.

thank you,
Ben

Grind looks just as I was suspecting, high and very promising.
