Re: Need some reassurance
One tool that I don't think I've seen mentioned in this discussion yet is a microscope. I have a USB microscope that I paid $35 for from Amazon and it is a great tool for edge inspection. The magnification it provides allows me to see whether or not I have apexed the knife, removed any small chips, ...

Re: EDC suggestions
The Benchmade Bugout gets a lot of love for EDC. I'd suggest checking out one of those.

Re: Show us your new knife!
This one if just getting wrapped up. My second Black Lotus, 255x56 with mid weight grind, spaghetti oak handle. My first BL was such a joy to use I ordered a second. Jeff Steele collaborated with friends of mine and they came up with the idea for this knife together. Then Jeff did his thing and del...

Re: Where's the burr ?
I've seen people use a Q-tip or a small patch of a microfiber dust pad to help in the detection of a burr. You can feel the burr catch on the fibers.

Re: Should you sharpen your new knife out of the box?
I like to use the knife for a little while just to see how it performs from the maker before I give it a fresh edge. New knives often have very rough looking edges on them, but they still cut reasonably well.

That was a very generous offer you made to help resolve the issue for the customer considering they caused it and it was not your fault not a faulty product.

Re: Favorite steak and how you cook it?
My favorite is the ribeye. I treat it with Montreal seasoning and cook it to medium-rare in a cast iron skillet on the stove top.

Clay Allison might be a good person to ask. He was a field guide before he started Wicked Edge.

Re: Coffee Lovers
You guys have some serious coffee rigs! I'm not a coffee drinker (prefer tea) and I had no idea that people were so passionate about the brewing process. Nothing wrong being passionate about both. I get my single origin and blended teas from the UK, now that's dedication. The choice and quality in ...

Re: Need to strop
I think the others have covered it here. If you don't have a sharp edge at your coarsest grit then you probably won't get a sharp edge at the end of your progression. I primarily sharpen on a Wicked Edge setup and use diamond abrasives. The edge I get from a 100 grit diamond plate will slice paper.

Re: Hunting knife needed
Bark River knives seem to get a lot of love. I would check them out if I were in the market for a hunting blade. Benchmades are great knives, so I think you'll be happy with your choice.
