Re: New Sharpening Stone From Shibata

I know I am less in the know than I once was for Japanese knife knowledge and rumors. I assume shibata is still considered one of the top sharpeners, does finish his knives at 1200?

Am I going too high?

I have made several. Happy to make them, but I assume your cabinet contractor could too. I currently have three 22 inch bars in my kitchen.

Re: How to sharpen a CCK 1303?

The exact angle is less important than being consistent. I figured I can eyeball 45 degrees, half that is 22.5, and half that is 11 degrees. I estimate about 15 degrees per side is my preference. If I remember correctly, the cck is very thick behind the edge. I try to chose an angle and then using m...

I had an early one and I have been told they are improved since then. The early ones would have sharpened fine, go for it.

Oh, I bet Mr. Bites has a custom handle that would look great on that knife!
I do seem to hear about dogs eating handles. Not as often as Mark. Thank you , I always have a couple handles ready to go.

The first folder is live and for sale. Since this was a collab with another maker, and they have a better website, it’s posted to his site.

Re: Home made small knife rest for Tormek

I bet it could be 3D printed. Or atleast rapid prototyping with 3D printing and then a machine shop could fabricate from aluminum. I could probably be fabed in a home shop without welding too.

Start off easy. Just use 9 v batteries. Baking soda or tsp as electrolytes for color. Manganese for black.

What color should I anodize the titanium spacers? IMG_0918.jpeg Hi Ben. So back about a million years ago when I was fooling around with modding cars, one of the cool effects we learned for titanium exhaust tips was --- they turned blue with heat. Probably not the way I'd go on the two samples you ...

Re: Folding Chefs/Cooking Knife Recommendation

Is there much of a market for a larger foldable kitchen knife. As someone who is just getting into making folders, I assumed the pivot area would just be too hard to clean to be practical? I would love to try a 6-8 in folder. I have seen some online.

Re: A little kitchen project: magnetic knife hangers

Very nice! For single blade holders, I only use 1 or two n50 1/2 x 1/8th neodymium magnets. If drill or router to 1/16th in or about 1.5 mm from the face of the wood, the hold is perfect. Keep up the good work!!! Nice tips, thanks! I was using the 8mm size as I had some on hand already, but then ne...
