Re: Photo of Edge pro rod modification

Greetings Grant and thank you for the kind words! I don't believe there is a pivot out there like the MadRookie mod rod for the Hapstone. All of the models that I'm familiar with use a fixed angle rod. The angle rod slot is also offset to the left so that the pivot can be centered relative to the bl...

Re: Photo of Edge pro rod modification

I use this pivot unit on my Hapstone V6 since I don't have the upgrades for the Apex. The pivot unit is from MadEdge. It still seems to be off center on the Apex but it is a very smooth pivot. The only pivot that is smoother is on the newest version of the Hapstone.

Re: Diamond stones

The 2/3 micron stone leaves a very near mirror polish that you can either follow with the Spyderco Ultra fine or any other similar micron stone to smooth out the diamond scratch pattern. When I follow that progression with the Spyderco Ultra Fine, it push cuts with ease and pops arm hair all day!

Re: Diamond stones

I've been using the KME diamond stones and I glued them to the Edge Pro blanks. I have the a 4 stone set that works really well. https://www.kmesharp.com/kmegosexxcdi.html https://www.kmesharp.com/setdmtdi4x1d.html I also added a DMT 4" aligner extra, extra fine to this before buying the Venev ...

Re: tips

Greetings joeshunt5! This usually happens when the knife you are sharpening has a large upswept tip and you have to angle the knife away from the blade table. This results in a steeper angle because the tip has moved farther away from the blade table and explains why the bevel gets larger at the tip...

Re: Flattening EP stones- diamond plates vs. Ben’s method

I've tried both. I generally used diamond plates for my EP stones, silicon carbide stones, and Shapton Glass stones. I only use the EP sand for my EP diamond matrix stones. They're a different animal. David— what’s your take on the matrix stones? I’m debating upgrading from stock EP stones, and sha...

Re: New add on for EP—Slide Guide

I've used the 3 point guide on the Hapstone V6 and always wished it was made with tighter tolerances. I remember Cody saying that he had this prototyped quite a few months back. In my opinion, it is the ultimate addition to an Edge Pro because you will have much less hand fatigue when sharpening wit...

Re: Flattening EP stones- diamond plates vs. Ben’s method

I don't remember what article I read a few years ago but it showed the results after flattening a 10k chosera with a 140 grit diamond and a 1k diamond plate. The 140 grit flattened stone was coarser than the 1k but after a few sharpening passes, the 10k smoothed out. The 400 grit combo diamond stone...

Re: Flattening EP stones- diamond plates vs. Ben’s method

I have predominately used the silicone carbide and glass plate method and I can say that over time the glass will also dish. I can get thin glass at a local hardware store for just a few dollars and use both sides compared to the price of diamond plates. Diamond plates are much more convenient if yo...

My apologies for the delay in my post. I've been moving and getting my internet swapped over to the new address. Extremely informative information by both of you!! This is a short video where Cliff Stamp elaborates on his plateau sharpening and his thoughts on burr formation: https://www.youtube.com...

Re: Diamond Matrix vs. Shapton or Chosera for EP?

I much prefer the stones because I just have to keep them flat versus swapping out the tapes. Just my preference and Grant's method is equally effective. I've watched a video from Cliff Stamp a while back that backs up what you are referencing about the burr. He likened it to bending a spoon back an...

Re: Diamond Matrix vs. Shapton or Chosera for EP?

I always finish most of my pocket knives on the 10k Suehiro but I have noticed that lower grit edges bite and cut abrasive media better in my opinion. I'm on the verge of using different finishes on my carbon steel gyutos since I have a few natural stones in my collection. I have a Rozsutec, Tsushim...

Re: Diamond Matrix vs. Shapton or Chosera for EP?

If you are going to sharpen high carbide wear resistant steels, I would highly suggest using the Edge Pro Diamond Matrix stones or diamond stones in general. Shapton Glass stones are only going to cut wear resistant steels with less than 4% Vanadium, that is just how they were designed. I have quite...

Re: Diamond stones

I would really like to see the results from a very high powered microscope. I'm wondering if it's possible that the carbides are actually being dulled by softer stones versus being sharpened by the diamonds
