An interesting review which includes the 3000 grit diamond lapping plate (around 11 minutes in).

Very kind words about the 3k diamond plate. I've never tried sharpening with a knife in one hand while holding the stone/plate in the other. Might have to give it a shot.

Well, my chef knife and edc universes have now officially collided.

Michael Christy is always an interesting source for information and opinions. Yes, he can be a bit dry at times but he's definitely well-seasoned. Thanks, for posting this.

Micheal Christy is a great example of someone who perfected their own style of sharpening with a huge amount of success. Unconventional to say the least, a real student of steels, stones and techniques. I always enjoy listening to him. Wish he would get into chef knives a bit more.

I’m interested. Is the cost competitive with the
Dia-plates?
What stroping compound would you follow with afterwards?

It IS competetive. I would follow with 3 micron (6k) polycrystalline diamond on white nanocloth.

Here's a closeup of the 3k diamond plate for KME (1x4). Also available in 3x8, 1x6 etc:

Very fine grit and surprisingly robust:
