How many knives fit on a 16" Wooden Magnetic Strip?
If I plan on having 5-6 knives that I'd like to hang on a magnetic wooden holder.....would you say 16" is long enough?

Mine is 14 1/2 inches and I have 6 knives on it. Three 210 mm gyutos, one 180 mm gyuto, a honesuki, and a petty

It also depends on the quality of the strip. If it has densely packed magnets you'll be able to fit more; if there are too few then knives can slip around and try to "compete" for the magnets (a bit dangerous).
On the 23" walnut sold here, I have:
A Chinese chef knife (quite wide)
Nakiri (wide)
2x 210mm gyuto
Santoku
2x petty (narrow)
Bread knife
And it's full.

Normal knives should fit.If you are a fan of Takeda san it might only fit 3 or 4.

I like a less full approach. I have a 20 inch and have 5 knives on it and often only 4. A pairing, petty, chef and slicer. Cleaver is under the butcher block.

Re: How many knives fit on a 16" Wooden Magnetic Strip?
I think the point is that it doesn't quite work that way. I have a ~16" strip and I usually have 6-7 knives on it, but they are all pairing or petty knives. Because of the placement of my strip, hanging larger knives would be awkward to get them on and off, and it would therefore require more space on the side of each knife, and more vertical space around the strip (I'd also want it further off the wall due to the angle of approach to hang them). As it is, I find a strip works really, really well for my small knives, but I much prefer my slot boxes for all of my gyutos.
So, for 16", I think it really depends on where you hang it, how close to the wall (or thick) it is, where the magnets are (mentioned above), and the strength of the magnets (the stronger they are, the more space you may need on either side of the knife to slide or twist it on and off the strip). I cannot stress enough that how you put the knives on and off the strip will dramatically affect where you can put it and how may knives you can comfortably store on it.
Regardless, I would want at least 1" on either side of any knife larger than 6", and preferably a bit more for larger knives or knives of very different lengths where my hand might be getting close to an adjacent edge.

Re: How many knives fit on a 16" Wooden Magnetic Strip?
I ended up getting a 16" strip from Amazon. Came today. Magnetics work great....it will def hold 6 maybe even 7 knives.
Thanks for the advise!!
