Re: First rule of sharpening?

I've only been at it for 5 months or so. I realized the first week, slow down. Don't be in a rush to finish, not if you want to like the result. The other thing I thought of first time was only leave steel on the stone, no blood. Just like you can't put metal back on, you can't scoop up the blood an...

Only thing I know about sharpening is that it is another rabbit hole you're headed down. Start reading the forum. Read the other threads in the knife recomendation subforum. You'll find answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet. Plus answers to the questions you do have. The reading will...

Re: Another person leaving Wusthoff

For cutting vegetables, it's going to depend on what size you want. Masutani VG10 Damascus Santoku 165mm https://www.chefknivestogo.com/mavgdasa16.html Knife is around 6.5 inches. Slightly smaller than your average chef's knife. Many consider this the perfect size for home cooking, especially if yo...

Re: Cutting board question

Just bought the soft rubber Hasegawa and I love it! It's like cutting on a cloud, easy on the blades and cleans up fast and thorough. I bought the scraper/scrub brush to make sure there's no food buildup. That's a nice little tool. Very happy with this product, nothing negative to say!

Re: Covid vaccine today

I don’t care about view points but I do care about facts. Especially when related to life or death issues. Those numbers are wrong. Every reliable source quotes 2%+ mortality rate which might not be end of the world stuff but it is 2 people out of 100. That is nothing to be so carefree or glib abou...

Well I guess I'm not surprised to see dissent here. I wouldn't have been injected if I though it unsafe. Especially so for my wife of 75 years with medical complications. I've been involved with several FDA drug studies so I speak with some authority on the matter. Not absolutely authoritative. Whi...

Re: Covid vaccine today

Sue’s got her appointment for her shot tomorrow at noon. No packages shipping while she’s gone (joking). By the end of the week our entire crew will have had at least 1 shot each. Very glad to hear it.I got the pfizer and my wife got the moderna, neither of us had any side effects with both shots. ...

Re: Twice in one week!

I've been sharpening for just under two years and doubt I've sharpened more than 400 knives in that time . So, I'm still very much a n00b. Well, I'm screwed as a new sharpener then ☹ Just have to keep going. The count doesn't really matter. Simply put, we n00bs need the reps. The more situations an...

Re: Twice in one week!

Right on Ronnie. It always amazes me the sorry state most people keep their knives. Many family and friends never get them sharpened and they’re no better than butter knives in their drawers. Then you sharpen one for them and draw it through some paper and they think you’re a wizard. :) You are so ...

Re: Where to buy a Hasegawa Cutting Board

Got email saying it was sent, it arrived the next day! It's like cutting on a cloud! SO soft it feels spring loaded. I love this board. Bought the scraper/scrubbing brush to remove any food buildup that may occur. I'm loving this board, never felt anything like it at all. Thanks to this forum for po...
