Re: What did you cook today?

I continue to be in awe at Ronnie always pushing the limits!!! Love the creativity and improvisation. Looks really tasty. On my end, I saw figs in the supermarket randomly today. After a long bike ride, the Flavor Bible gave me an idea for a salad using them, using spinach, charred figs, walnuts, sh...

Re: What did you cook today?

Thanks Ronnie. I do feel very lucky to be near a LOT of salmon especially. I also took your recommendation on HMart - I have a feeling I'm going to be hitting up that seafood counter soon and learning how to use that deba. Thanks again for the tip there (pun not intended...) ....I also had a long we...

Re: What did you cook today?

Busy week at work so have been quiet, but catching up on the thread this evening I can some really great dishes here guys. That tikka masala brings back some memories! Ordered takeout tonight (BBQ) but sneaked in some cooking at lunch. Some assorted sashimi to use up + rice in the Cuckoo + a wish to...

Re: What did you cook today?

Made with the blunt beater in a rush, hence the sloppy onion slicing  Looks great. Would have never noticed the onions if you hadn't mentioned them. I think "I meant do to that" should be your auto-response on such matters! As much as I love being back at the office, seeing you...

Re: What did you cook today?

Great leftover dish Ronnie. Similar grind with leftovers over here today - what to do with them. 6wife kindly brought back a Rotisserie chicken from Costco, which I usually put in salads, but... salads... meh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Went for oyakudon instead today, courtesy of the new Cuckoo rice cooker. In love ...

Re: What did you cook today?

Very nice Chappy, you're on a roll. Making good use of that new range! Thank you! I'm seriously in love with that Cafe range. So pleased with it. Also enjoying the new bookshelf and cookbook collection that I've added to the house. This meal was inspired by 'Japan' which I'd always been frustrated ...

Re: What did you cook today?

Back from Vieques, Puerto Rico today and it's so nice to be cooking again. I love plantain, but there really is only so much you can eat  I'd never complain about the heaven-on-Earth known as Maui but that's how I felt after eating a relatively small range of foods there for a week. You'd thin...

Back from Vieques, Puerto Rico today and it's so nice to be cooking again. I love plantain, but there really is only so much you can eat  Easy night with the Shibata 240 Kotetsu and a Korean salmon bowl, with brown rice, shredded cabbage, seaweed and radish. Had a side of cucumbers in soy with ...

Re: Vacuum sealer needed

I have been using a foodsaver vacuum sealer. I really only use once a year to package green chilies for the freezer. It works for awhile and then trey full light comes on and after cleaning doesn’t work properly again. This is the second unit that does this. So in the market for a unit that’s more ...

Re: Looking For A Fun/New Knife

The Shibatas are great knives but that's all already been said so... some more ideas: 1. Konosuke HD2 210 https://www.chefknivestogo.com/kohd2gy21la.html This is a great complement to a 240 in my opinion. I’ve had this marked as my go-to knife when travelling for a long time. Great feel and performa...

Re: Thin/Sharp Chef's Knife Recommendations

Just offering an additional +1 on the Shibata - this is my go-to laser too. Nothing else in my collection beats it. I have the Kotetsu R2 240 and it also doubles up as a fantastic slicer. Unless you're truly in a small space I'd agree on the option re:240 also. HD2 would be another fantastic choice ...

Re: What did you cook today?

Hell yeah. Looks like you're rocking that Newquist. Really nice. How's that working out on the new range? Yeah, it was the first night back with the round bottom wok tonight. Honestly I'd made peace with not being able to use it again given the uncertainty over whether I'd be able to switch to gas,...

Re: What did you cook today?

Inaugural voyage with the new range tonight! It's a duel fuel Cafe 30". Couldn't be happier. And what better way to welcome it to the kitchen than with a Shibata 240, a pasta puttanesca and a side of spinach with crispy garlic.* I really love the six burner configuration. I'm in love. As Ronnie...

Re: What did you cook today?

My guess is that you might do well on some Thai ingredients at H-Mart (581 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139) . Even though it's Korean-focused, the one near my office has quite a few Thai staples, including a variety of fish sauces, many of the Maesri pastes and even those young green pepperc...
